Third Thursday with Carlos Baldizón Martini

Join us for wine, bites and artsy conversation as we celebrate our Gallery Showcase Artist! Carlos’s work will be with us through the end of June.

Artist Statement: I’m a Chicago based artist originally from Guatemala who has become known for my simple, yet colorful paintings mainly on paper and canvas. My combination of black and white subject matter with bright and colorful backgrounds make for a unique contrast, creating cheerful and unique pieces adaptable to any environment. All pieces reflect my love for color, contrast, detail, and movement. I have created pieces ranging in style, size and medium, and I have begun to experiment with other mediums such as fabric, glass and mirrors. Although my work appears uncomplicated, a fair amount of detail has been dedicated to every single piece.

Third Fourth Thursday with Piya Willwerth

Join us for our Artist Showcase Series celebrating PIYA WILLWERTH and her SPACE GIRL series! Her elegant paintings on panel will be on display until the end of April.

Artist Statement: As a comic book fan and longtime devotee of storybook illustrations, I’ve come to admire simplicity and negative space in illustration. Mystery and solitude reside within them. To strip down a shape and reduce it to something very simple and evocative is something that has been a longtime interest of mine. I like comics with texture.

Space Girl is a story. She is looking for someone, anyone, going from planet to planet, one single other living soul. She wears lipstick. She brushes her hair. She kills time. She keeps looking. Space Girl is hopeful, frustrated, lonely, and a little alienated, and I see this in many young people in the city. Where are we going? Who are we going there with?

Sacred Art is pleased to participate in MommyCon Chicago 2016! We will be in the exhibitor’s hall with a selection of favorite children’s art, wearables, and some special surprises for mom, too.

MommyCon is a nationwide convention series dedicated to creating and nurturing a community of parents and mothers-to-be in celebration of natural parenting.

MommyCon takes a gentle and positive approach to educating parents about the emotional and physical benefits of natural birthing, breastfeeding and babywearing. We advocate values of holistic health, eco-friendly diapering, child safety standards and procedures, and female self-care and wellness. Our mission is to create a community of support, acceptance and non-judgement for women journeying through parenthood.

The MommyCon experience comprises a full day of educational panels and workshops plus a product showcase hall of more than 50 exhibitors. Parents and children can expect to have every amenity and resource available at their fingertips. There is a Babywearing Lounge and Baby Gear Area with a try-no-need-to-buy philosophy; a Baby Food Court with talks on nutrition and eating challenges; a Baby Care Area and Cloth Diaper Resource Center, plus Baby Safe Play Spaces throughout the event. Each conference ends with $10,000 worth of giveaways and each attendee receives a gift bag from MommyCon sponsors.

Third Friday Artist Spotlight – DESTINY VON BRANDT

Join us for a Third FRIDAY celebration featuring Grand Rapids-based artist Destiny Von Brandt!

Destiny had a successful debut in Chicago late last year at Renegade Craft Fair. Her show, Raptors and Prey, will be on display on our gallery wall until the end of February.

Artist Statement: The artwork showcased was inspired by raptors and the prey they hunt, all of which can be found in the Midwest. The goal was to create work that pleasantly coincides shapes and the organic silhouettes produced by the birds and their prey. Resulting in the juxtaposition of hard edges, negative space, and the natural figures of the birds and their natural habitats.
